Complacency Blinkers in the Advertising World?

by sanjay on August 7, 2011

What do you think? Are advertisers and ad agencies not “walking their talk”??

By the way, I refer to the following blog post that I had don earlier, on the subject of views of Nitin Paranajpe (CEO and MD of Hindustan Unilever Ltd): http://blog.socialwavelength.com/2011/07/thought-provoking-words-from-nitin-paranjpe-ceo-and-md-of-hindustan-unilever-ltd/

i agree with his common notion that traditional marketeers have blinkers on and severely underspend on the net.
however, i do not blame them for this situation but i blame the net marketeers.
My contention is that internet marketeers, like yourselves have been hoisted on your own two petards-the first is that early on in the inernet game you guys shouted from the rooftops that everything in the net is measurable, when none even new it was or even asked you  for numbers!
Now you are seen as the modern, geek cousin of direct marketing!
The second is that ‘creative geeks’ have painted all of you in a ‘nerd corner’ which traditional marketeers feel is not inhabited by ‘real’ touch -and-feel consumers!
I am a ‘marketing guru’ with 3 decades of rich experience who is telling you this.
please change the way you communicate with marketeers-in tone, content and what you can do for them in changing consumer behaviour to create a positive predispostion towards their brands.
That’s what its all about-it snot about stopping and marvelling at the number of tweets and posts!
i am tired of reading figures in millions about the internet.
Does TV or the press treat a consumer as such a moron who is impressed with large numbers? Or is it about the emotion behind the communication piece which convinces a reader of a press ad or TV spot to buy a brand?
You have to change how you present yourselves to the world.

    Sincerely,
    Jagdeesh Shivdasani.
