What I foresee is that once these settings come in place, users may be asked to set some defaults, e.g. photo sharing permissions, or video sharing permissions, or notes that you write, etc. Those kind of default privacy settings as default. Instead of currently existing ‘everyone’ being default.

Anyway, the challenge for brands like Facebook, Ebay, Amazon etc. has always been to keep it simple and yet get things done. I don’t think Facebook will fall short in that respect.

Quite well summarized. The problem would be educating the 350 million users to use the new settings (and yes the letter is a part of that). I believe the letter hinted that everyone would need to once setup their privacy settings ?

Rest time will tell the impact, I am sure I will learn more on the same here… I ain’t a hardcore FB user
